Good Morning Church,
Greetings on December 3rd. I can't believe we
are only 22 days away from Christmas. Time sure
flies when you're having fun! The weather hurt
our attendance yesterday, as we only had 116 in
worship. I enjoyed preaching on "How to Have a
Stress-Free Christmas." I am doing my best to
put this message into practice in my own life.
We also have a busy week with Staff and Board
dinners, the District Christmas Party, the
Eastside Mission Christmas Fundraising Dinner on
Thursday night, and of course our Christmas
Dinner Concert next Sunday night with Mark
Pennington. Hold on to your seats -- The
Christmas season is in full gear!
For a thought this morning let's talk about
forgiveness. One day Peter came to Jesus and
asked, "How many times shall I forgive my
brother when he sins against me? Up to seven
times?" Jesus must have startled Peter when He
gave His response. Jesus said, "I tell you, not
seven times, but seventy times seven." That's
490 times. Is that possible? Who could keep
count for that many offenses? This morning I
think that's the point. Love keeps no record of
wrongs. By the time you have forgiven a brother
that many times, we are definitely in the habit
of forgiving.
The world's worst prison is the prison of an
unforgiving heart. If we refuse to forgive
others, then we only imprison ourselves and
cause our own torment. Some of the most
miserable people I know are people who refuse to
forgive. They think they are punishing someone
by not forgiving them, but they are really only
punishing themselves. I hope you take these
thoughts to heart this morning. God is good and
He can help you forgive. May you live in
forgiveness this week.
Till next time, Pastor Don
P.S. I hope to see many of you at the Eastside
Mission Christmas Fundraising Dinner this
Thursday night at our church. The time is 5-7 pm
and you can purchase tickets at the door for $7
each and $3.50 for children. Don't forget,
church, it's for a great cause.
