Good Morning South Flint Family,
It looks like it is going to be one of those
Indian Summer days today. Forecast here is 85
and sunny. We just came through a great weekend
in the life of our church. What a blessing to
have Don & Cheryl Cox as our special guests
missionaries for the weekend! With God's help we
were able to raise over $11,600 for World
Evangelism. To God be the Glory! We had great
attendance in both services and a good turn out
for the Baked Potato Fundraiser the teens held
after the Sunday night service.
I read a story this past week about a little boy
who loved to play Monopoly. He would often go to
his grandmother's house and they would play the
game a lot. As usual, everytime they played she
would clean him out of all his properties and
money. She was vicious. However, she would
always encourage him to keep playing and
learning, for someday he would be a great
player.
One summer a new kid moved next door to the
little boy. This new boy was really good at
Monopoly and liked to play. He played all summer
long with his friend. Finally the little boy's
grandmother came for a visit and he asked his
grandmother if she wanted to play "The Game?"
Her face lit up and her eyes got narrow and she
said, "You're on." At the end of that game the
boy had totally wiped her out. He had all the
property and stacks of money. As he sat there
with a smile counting his winnings, his
grandmother said, "Johnny, now that you've
learned to play the game, let me tell you
something about life: When it's all over,
everything goes back in the box."
That story speaks to me of the fact that God is
probably not interested in how many game pieces
we have. It doesn't matter how much money we've
got, how many things we own, or how talented we
are. The only thing that is going to matter for
us who serve the Lord is, have our efforts
resulted in the increase of heaven's population?
Have we helped to enlarge the Kingdom of God?
Everything else will go back into the box. Jesus
said in Matthew 6:19-20, "Do not store up for
yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and
rust destroy, and where thieves break in and
steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and
where thieves do not break in and steal."
This week let's invest ourselves in what has the
greatest eternal value. That is none other than
people for whom Christ died. Have a great week
church. I will be in Petoskey, Michigan, for the
district Pastor and Spouse Retreat this
Tuesday-Thursday. Pastor June and Gary will be
there also. If you need anything call the church
office and Andrew will be able to help you.
Till next time, Pastor Don
P.S. Hope to see many of you out Monday night
for "Revival Prayer" starting at 7pm.
Also be in prayer for our Men's Retreat this
weekend and our speaker Rev. Larry Crum.
