Good Morning Church Family,
As always, I greet you in Jesus' name. Things
are well with me, and we had a wonderful time at
South Flint yesterday. We were privileged to
have the singing group "StrongHold" with us for
a morning of good Gospel music. These young men
blessed our hearts, and our people really
responded to them and their message. We had 147
in attendance, and it was good to have our Kidz
Church children in the service yesterday. We had
a good attendance Sunday night, and our elective
classes are going well.
Many of you know that next Sunday night is the
kick-off of our District Missionary Convention.
We will be leaving the church at 4:30pm and
carpooling to Detroit First Church. Andrew has
directions in the office if you want to go by
yourself. Our church will be receiving two
awards that night and it is also "Fill A Pew
Night." Monday night our own Pastor June Burton
will be ordained and become an Elder in the
Church of the Nazarene. I'm hoping many of you
will be there for this great moment in her life.
Tuesday afternoon I will be accepting the
"General Superintendent's Award" for South Flint
after I give my annual church report. What a
blessing to receive an award like this and be
able to tell people what God has done this past
year for South Flint. As you can see, lots of
good things going on.
This morning, I encourage each of you to get
into God's Word. There is nothing better I know
of to help with discouragement, loneliness,
heartache, and to cure a heavy heart. I remember
the disciples on the road to Emmaus. They were
discouraged, heartbroken, and felt hopeless.
Jesus chose to give them the one thing that
never fails -- God's Word. It says, "And
beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus
explained to them what was said in the
Scriptures concerning Himself." Did it make a
difference? For those two it did. Those two
disciples said, "Did not our hearts burn within
us while He talked with us on the road and
opened the Scriptures to us." Trying to live a
victorious Christian life without a daily dose
of the Scriptures is like trying to run your car
on an empty tank, working all week on an empty
stomach, or paying your bills with an empty
checking account. It will never happen.
We need to be reminded of what is true. God's
Word gives us a dose of reality. Your morning
briefing in the Word will give you a perspective
that you don't get in the world. I need God's
commentary on my life every day. A Christian -
in this society - is swimming upstream. Without
the constant nutrition of the Word, he will soon
tire and be dragged off by the sheer force of
the current. So, spend time everyday with God
and His Word.
Till next time, Pastor Don
P.S. Next Sunday morning our teens will be
sharing about the Battle Cry Event and the
impact it had on them.
Also starting next Sunday, Pastor's messages
will be available in streaming audio on our
church website. This is something new we are
going to try. Please give us some feedback if
you get a chance.
P.S.S. MEN AT WORK (Looks like Pastor is after
brownie points with the women)
