Good Morning Church,
It's hard to believe we will be in the month of
February before the week is over. I looked at
the weather forecast for the week and it looks
to be very cold. We had a good day with
wonderful services yesterday. We had very good
attendance, but I missed some of our regulars.
Your pastor wants you to know that you are
needed and you are an important part of the
South Flint body. We all make a vital
contribution.
My verse to you for the week is I Corinthians
12:12. It says, "Our bodies have many parts, but
the many parts make up only one body when they
are all put together. So it is with the body of
Christ." (TLB)
I read a story last week about Jimmy Durante
being asked to do a charity show for our WWII
veterans. He told them he was very busy, but if
they wouldn't mind him doing one short monologue
and immediately leaving for his next
appointment, he'd come. They agreed. But when
Jimmy got on stage he went through the short
monologue - then stayed, and stayed, and stayed.
Soon he'd been on stage 20, 30, then 40 minutes.
Finally he took a last bow and left. Backstage
someone stopped him and said "Mr. Durante, I
thought you had to go after a few minutes. What
happened?" Jimmy answered, "You can see for
yourself if you look on the front row." In the
front row were two veterans, each of whom had
lost an arm in the war. One had lost his right
arm and the other had lost his left. Together,
they were able to clap, and that's exactly what
they kept doing, loudly and cheerfully.
That's a picture of what's supposed to happen in
the church. We complete one another. Together as
a body, we can do so much more than when we're
on our own. But to enjoy its benefits you have
to attend, and when you get to church, you must
reach out to others so that you can know, and be
known. Pew-sitting and casual greetings don't
cut it. Someone sitting next to you may have the
encouragement you need for the week. We draw
from one another. When that happens, the church
is working like it supposed to. Please come this
week and bring your strengths and abilities with
you. You are needed. Hope you have a great week
serving Christ.
Until next time, Pastor Don
P.S. This Sunday morning we will be dedicating
Shawn & Holly's little girl; Lillian Grace Kidle.
I am going to enjoy this wonderful privilege.
And of course we're having our Super Bowl Party
Sunday night starting at 7pm.
